The Red Planet, humanity's next destination
Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun and the second-smallest planet in the Solar System. Mars is a terrestrial planet with a thin atmosphere, with surface features such as impact craters, valleys, dunes, and polar ice caps.
Like Earth, Mars has differentiated into a dense metallic core overlaid by less dense materials. Scientists initially determined that the core is at least partially liquid. Current models of its interior imply a core consisting primarily of iron and nickel.
Mars is a terrestrial planet with surface features such as impact craters, valleys, dunes and polar ice caps. It also has the largest volcano in the Solar System, Olympus Mons, and the largest canyon, Valles Marineris.
